About the circuit
Mallory Park in Leicestershire is built round a lake, and best known for Gerards, a long, constant-radius right-hander that seems to go on for ever.
Driving a lap
Mallory Park Chicanes is 2.05 km (1.27 miles) a lap in Apex Drawn, with 7 corners: 5 rights and 2 lefts. That makes it a lap heavier on the right-handers - one side of your tyres does most of the work.
Turn 1 is a fast right-hander.
The tightest corner is Turn 5, a right-hand hairpin: brake in a straight line before it, and get the car turned early so you can be back on the throttle as soon as possible.
2 corners are fast enough to take with little or no braking (Turn 1, Turn 4): commit to them and they are where a lap time is found.
The longest straight runs from Turn 7 to Turn 1, so the exit of Turn 7 matters more than its entry: a good exit carries all the way down it.
It is a hilly lap, with crests and dips that change where you can brake and how much grip the car has over the top of a rise.

Each car keeps its own best lap on every circuit, so Mallory Park Chicanes has a separate leaderboard for the GT, the Formula car, the kart and the hatchback. Start in the GT, which forgives a mistake; the Formula car is quicker everywhere but punishes a missed apex.
